President of Supreme Court Met with Secretary General of Council of Europe

On 31 January 2020 within the visit of the President of the Supreme Court Valentyna Danishevska to Strasbourg (France) to participate in opening the judicial year of the European Court of Human Rights, her meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić took place.

While the meeting, its participants discussed the independence of the judicial power; challenges the SC faced with, including those appearing because of excessive workload; the cooperation between Ukraine and the CoE institutions, as well as the application of Protocol No. 16 to the European Convention on Human Rights by Ukraine

Marija Pejčinović Burić expressed the readiness of the Council of Europe to support the independence of Ukrainian judicial system and to cooperate in future.

The Special Advisor of the Council of Europe Secretary General for Ukraine Régis Brillat also participated in this meeting.
