The SC Judges Discuss Results of Work of the Supreme Court in Vienna

04 march 2019, 15:49

Within the event “Overview of Key Reforms in Ukraine: Decentralization and Judicial Reform”, held in the OSCE Headquarters (Vienna) with the support of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, its participants discussed the results of work of the Supreme Court, the complex reform of justice sphere, competitions to the High Anti-Corruption Court and the Supreme Court and the reformation of advocacy.

The OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger welcomed the participants and remarked that during last years, we became the witnesses of a range of significant changes in the sphere of justice. The OSCE supports the judicial reform, since the rule of law promotes security at international, national and civil levels. The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, in cooperation with partners from international community, directly participated in ensuring support to the judicial reform and continued provision of Ukraine with assistance in that sphere.

Thomas Greminger called Ukrainian partners upon staying loyal to this reform. The OSCE Secretary General emphasized that the judicial reform was not finalized, since the parliament continued to consider the long-awaited draft law on the reform of advocacy. Mr. Greminger agreed with the partners from the Council of Europe that the bill was a step forward in comparison with the Law on Advocacy acting since 2012.

The Secretary of the SC Grand Chamber Vsevolod Kniaziev and the Secretary of the Chamber on Corporate Disputes, Corporate Rights and Securities of the Commercial Cassation Court Ganna Vronska informed the heads of delegations from the OSCE member-states about key judgments of the Supreme Court regarding the protection of human rights and freedoms, the protection of right to property and the solution of key jurisdictional disputes.
