Judge of the Supreme Court in the Cassation Criminal Court Halyna Kret, who is a member of the Working Group on improving international legal cooperation and developing practical recommendations and a handbook on international legal assistance within the EU, took part in the second meeting of the Working Group. The meeting was held on 2–3 September 2026 in Kraków (Poland) in the format of a round table entitled “International Legal Cooperation in Practice: Case Management and the European Arrest Warrant (EAW) / European Investigation Order (EIO)”.
The event brought together Ukrainian specialists in the field of criminal justice and experts from the Netherlands. The participants discussed practical aspects of case management in the sphere of international legal cooperation, including the experience of the Netherlands and Ukrainian institutional instruments, as well as issues of registration, routing and tracking of international requests. Attention was also paid to what the system of managing such cases in Ukraine should look like.
One block of work concerned the practical application of the European Investigation Order (EIO) and the European Arrest Warrant (EAW), taking into account Ukraine’s European integration prospects. The participants worked on the structure of practical recommendations for Ukrainian specialists, which are to cover algorithms of action, templates with comments and checklists.
The round table was held within the framework of the project “A Fair, Transparent and Accountable Criminal Justice System in Ukraine – Phase II”, which is being implemented by CILC in consortium with partners with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and the assistance of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
