Judge of the Supreme Court in the Commercial Cassation Court Yehor Krasnov participated in a study visit to the legal institutions of the Kingdom of Sweden, which took place within the framework of the Train4EU project “Training Legal Professionals in EU Law for Ukraine’s EU Integration”.
The study visit was devoted to examining the practical application of European Union law in the work of the courts, the prosecution service and the legal profession in Sweden, as well as to familiarising participants with institutional mechanisms important for preparing Ukraine for EU membership. It served as a preparatory stage before the start of the educational programme on EU law delivered by Örebro University within the Train4EU project.
As part of the Ukrainian delegation, which included judges, prosecutors, advocates, notaries and representatives of the academic community, Yehor Krasnov visited the Swedish National Courts Administration (Domstolsverket), the Supreme Court of Sweden (Högsta domstolen), the Supreme Administrative Court of Sweden (Högsta förvaltningsdomstolen), the Swedish Prosecution Authority (Åklagarmyndigheten) and the Swedish Bar Association (Sveriges Advokatsamfund).
During professional meetings the participants discussed the application of EU law in the practice of national courts, interaction with the Court of Justice of the European Union, the preliminary ruling procedure, the specific features of the Swedish judicial system, international legal cooperation, and the role of the prosecution service and the legal profession in upholding the rule of law.
Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the Train4EU project, including the content of the forthcoming training modules, the use of the “training of trainers” model, and the further involvement of Swedish experts in the preparation of Ukrainian legal professionals.
Participation in the study visit made it possible to become acquainted with the practice of applying EU law in the activities of Sweden’s legal institutions, to deepen professional contacts with representatives of the judiciary and the legal community of that country, and to gain practical experience that will be used in the preparation of training materials, the organisation of educational events for judges, and the further adaptation of Ukrainian judicial practice to the standards of the European Union.
The Train4EU project is implemented by Örebro University within the framework of the Swedish Institute’s cooperation programme with Ukraine – SI Ukraine Cooperation Programme 2025.
