President of the Supreme Court Stanislav Kravchenko held a meeting with the new Director of the project “Strengthening Ukraine’s EU Alignment in the Rule of Law” (3*E4U), Mathias Steinebach. The meeting focused on coordinating joint efforts in the administration of justice on Ukraine’s path to full European integration.
The parties primarily discussed the need to continue work on the implementation of cassation filters to optimize the workload of the Supreme Court and ensure timely consideration of cases by the cassation instance court. They also addressed the advisability of conducting an audit of cases pending before courts of first instance.
As emphasized by the President of the Supreme Court, the national judicial system, led by the Supreme Court, is ready to continue effectively ensuring the right to equal access to justice — especially in the conditions of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine — and to fulfill the commitments undertaken within the negotiation process for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. “One of the key goals today is the adaptation of national law enforcement to European standards,” noted Stanislav Kravchenko.

Priority aspects include upholding the principle of judicial independence as one of the elements of justice, as well as the digitalization of court processes, which will be a fundamental component of the future model of the judicial system, added the President of the Supreme Court.

Mathias Steinebach assured that the 3*E4U project will continue to support the Supreme Court and the Ukrainian judicial system as a whole in implementing reforms and changes aimed at bringing Ukraine closer to the European legal community, while taking into account the requests and needs of the national judiciary.
The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Legal and Political Advisory Team of the 3*E4U project, Artem Shaipov, and the Acting Head of the Staff of the Supreme Court, Rasim Babanly.
It is worth noting that the 3*E4U project is realized by the German Society for International Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit – GIZ).
