Supreme Court judges participate in a training for tutors of the Council of Europe HELP Programme

02 april 2026, 09:35

On 26–27 March 2026, a two-day training course for HELP trainers/tutors (ToT) took place in Lviv. The event was organized within the framework of the Council of Europe project “HELP (Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals) for Ukraine, including during wartime. Phase II”. Its objective is to enhance the qualifications of legal professionals and ensure the effective application of European human rights standards.

The event was attended by Judge of the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court Vitalii Urkevych and Judge of the Supreme Court at the Commercial Cassation Court Olena Kibenko, who were delegated to undergo training as future tutors on the HELP platform.

Training HELP trainers/tutors is one of the tools used to support institutions within the justice system, bar associations and other partners in delivering high-quality training for legal professionals.

During the training, the judges learned the HELP methodology, acquired practical skills for working with the online platform, and developed competencies in organizing and moderating training courses.

The training programme covered both theoretical and practical aspects. In particular, participants worked with e-learning tools, learned how to design course structures, assess learning outcomes, and ensure interaction with participants. Attention was also given to the national adaptation of HELP courses and their use for the professional training of legal practitioners.

Successful completion of the training requires participants to complete a final assignment. Based on its results, participants will receive HELP programme certificates and will be included in the group of certified tutors, enabling them to implement relevant courses within the national system for training legal professionals.

The participation of Supreme Court judges in this programme aims to deepen knowledge of the application of Council of Europe standards and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights, as well as to promote modern approaches to judicial training.
