21 october 2025, 16:39

Ihor Benedysiuk, Secretary of the Judicial Chamber for Intellectual Property Rights of the Commercial Cassation Court within the Supreme Court, took part in the annual Intellectual Property Judges Forum of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), held at the WIPO headquarters in Geneva (Swiss Confederation). Supreme Court judges of the Commercial Cassation Court Tetiana Malashenkova, Iryna Kolos, and Yurii Vlasov also joined the event online.

The Forum is organized for judges from around the world to exchange experience on the most pressing challenges in the field of intellectual property arising from the rapid development of innovation and the increasingly cross-border use of intellectual property rights.

The event programme covered eight sessions over two days, dedicated to current issues of IP law application. On the first day, the topics discussed included the protection of industrial designs, pharmaceutical patents, well-known trademarks, and evidence in IP disputes. During the second day, participants discussed copyright and related rights, personal non-property rights, methods for calculating damages in civil proceedings, and criminal law enforcement in the IP sphere.

In addition, as part of the visit, Ihor Benedysiuk took part in a working meeting with Eun Joo Min, Director of the WIPO Judicial Institute, and the Institute’s team, dedicated to updating the Intellectual Property Handbook for Judges. This cooperation is aimed at developing unified approaches to interpreting and applying intellectual property law, as well as enhancing the specialization of judges who handle such cases.

The participation of Supreme Court representatives in the international forum contributed to strengthening cooperation between the Ukrainian judicial system and international partners, exchanging experience in IP law enforcement, and adapting national judicial practice to European standards.
