Supreme Court Judge of the Commercial Cassation Court, member of the Council of Judges of Ukraine Yehor Krasnov took part in the third seminar under the UA Connect project ‘Connecting Ukraine to the World: Multilateral Cooperation and Strengthening Foreign Trade Opportunities’, which took place in Munich (Germany).
The main goal of the event was to promote cooperation between Sweden and Ukraine in the field of advanced training in EU law and case law of the EU Court of Justice among legal professionals. The seminar was also attended by: representatives of the School of Behavioural, Social and Legal Sciences of the University of Örebro (Sweden) Joel Berg, Doctor of Law, Eleonor Kristoffersson, Professor of Law, Senem Eken, Lecturer in EU Law, Tetiana Rachkova, private notary of the Lutsk City Notary District, Member of the Council of the Notary Chamber of Ukraine, Head of the Notary Chamber of Ukraine in Volyn Region, Deputy Head of the Commission of the Notary Chamber of Ukraine for International Cooperation; Yurii Orzikh, a researcher at the University of Örebro (Sweden), PhD in Law, Associate Professor, private notary, member of the Commission on Deontology of Notaries of the International Union of Latin Notaries.
As part of the seminar, Yehor Krasnov delivered a presentation on ‘The Judiciary of Ukraine: Current Challenges and Needs’. He told the participants of the event about the Ukrainian judicial system, the number of disputes considered by the Ukrainian courts, including the Supreme Court. The speaker elaborated on the disputes involving the application of the EU acquis and the EU Court of Justice.
The discussion also focused on the presentation by Tetiana Rachkova on ‘European Integration of the Ukrainian Notary System’.
During the event, the UA Connect project, funded by the Swedish Institute (Svenska Institutet), and the future vector of the project's development at its next stage were presented. Among other things, the participants discussed further formats of cooperation between Örebro University (Sweden) and representatives of the Ukrainian justice and notary system.
The next stage of the UA Connect project involves developing and applying for a grant to fund a workshop programme for trainers from among Ukrainian judges, notaries, lawyers and prosecutors on the basics of EU law and the practice of applying EU law by the EU Court of Justice. The event also included preliminary consultations on the possible design of a training programme for trainers on EU law and the case law of the CJEU.
