Judges of the Supreme Court in the Criminal Cassation Court Nataliia Marchuk, Stanislav Holubytskyi and Alla Makarovets took part in a study visit to Nuremberg (Germany), where they attended the training ‘Standards of Evidence in the Investigation and Trial of International Crimes’.
During the visit, the judges visited the Nuremberg Trials Memorial, learnt about the rules of evidence in international criminal law, the assessment of the admissibility of evidence through the prism of national procedural law and international standards, as well as the practice of collecting and preserving documentary and digital evidence, including in forensic research.
Participants discussed standards and good practice for the production and presentation of evidence in courts, cases on the admissibility of evidence, and shared best practices on evidence in war crimes investigations. The training also focused on cooperation between Ukraine and the International Criminal Court.
This study visit is part of a series of cross-border initiatives of the National School of Judges of Ukraine aimed at providing practical support to Ukrainian judges in the administration of justice for war crimes.
The event was organised by the National School of Judges of Ukraine in cooperation with the International Nuremberg Principles Academy.
