Our work will be worth the effort only if decisions of national courts meet the highest international standards - Supreme Court President

04 march 2025, 15:50

This was emphasised by Stanislav Kravchenko, President of the Supreme Court, during the launch of the High Anti-Corruption Court judicial training programme. He expressed his gratitude to the National School of Judges and international partners for organising this event, noting that such training programmes are not only an educational project, but also a platform for professional discussion, aimed at achieving high-quality results in work and identifying areas that should be focused on in order to increase the efficiency of justice.

In addition, the topics of the training programme cover extremely relevant issues related to electronic (digital) evidence, the circulation of virtual assets and the use of artificial intelligence in judicial proceedings, and therefore meet the current challenges faced by judges in the administration of justice.

The President of the Supreme Court also noted that despite the extremely difficult conditions caused by the war and the related difficulties in organising their work, Ukrainian courts have properly performed their function, as evidenced by the statistical indicators of the judicial proceedings over the past year. Thus, in 2024, courts of all instances and jurisdictions considered 4.4 million cases, while today there are about one million cases pending in the courts.

Undoubtedly, one of the most important categories of cases is proceedings on corruption offences, as systematic counteraction to this phenomenon, especially in times of war, is a key to the state's success. In addition, ensuring the rule of law and the effectiveness of justice, in particular in terms of combating corruption, is an important condition for achieving compliance with the requirements of the European Union.

In addition, Stanislav Kravchenko reminded that on 27 February this year, the Ukrainian version of the ECHR Knowledge Exchange Platform was presented in Strasbourg. The President of the Supreme Court urged his colleagues to actively use the analytical materials posted on this resource in their work for a more in-depth study of the ECHR approaches and effective application of its case law in the consideration of cases.
