21 february 2025, 12:11

Judge of the Administrative Cassation Court of the Supreme Court Olesia Radyshevska and Judge of the Commercial Cassation Court of the Supreme Court, Chairman of the Committee of the Council of Judges of Ukraine on Ethics, Prevention of Corruption and Settlement of Conflicts of Interest Yehor Krasnov took part in the roundtable ‘Justice Sector Reform on the Path to Ukraine's Accession to the EU’, organised by the Centre for International Legal Cooperation (CILC) with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.

The purpose of the event was to discuss Ukraine's progress towards EU accession in the justice sector and to highlight ongoing projects implemented by CILC and its partners to facilitate reforms necessary for the accession process.

The event was opened with welcoming remarks by CILC Deputy Director Eric Vincken and Gabriele Chlevickaite, Research Fellow at the International Criminal Law Department of the ASSER Institute, who outlined the areas of justice sector reforms in connection with Ukraine's EU accession process for support by CILC and the ASSER Institute.

The participants of the roundtable discussed the reports of Ukrainian institutions and the European Commission's reports for the justice sector on Ukraine's accession process, as well as the current support provided by relevant international donors and organisations.

The participants also considered the support that CILC and ASSER Institute can provide in the process of Ukraine's accession to the EU, in particular, in the following areas:

  • access to justice and fair courts (protection of fundamental rights, freedom of speech, application of cassation filters in the Supreme Court);
  • EU standards for the judiciary (anti-corruption activities, independence and efficiency of the judiciary);
  • the fight against organised crime, terrorism and collaboration under martial law, etc.

Special attention was paid to the progress in the field of probation on Ukraine's path to the EU. In particular, they discussed the Ukrainian assessment, shadow reports of civil society, reports of the European Commission and the identification of specific areas and processes for CILC support.
