Supreme Court judges continue to gain experience in dealing with cases of international crimes

10 february 2025, 14:17

The number of criminal proceedings in courts on war crimes is growing. In this regard, Ukrainian judges continue to study international experience and case law on international crimes. To this end, a group of representatives from Ukraine took part in a study visit to Ireland and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The delegation included Oleksandr Marchuk, President of the Criminal Cassation Court within the Supreme Court, and Oleksandra Yanovska, judge of the Criminal Cassation Court within the Supreme Court.

The Ukrainian judges visited the courts of Ireland and took part in seminars and discussions conducted by judges, prosecutors and lawyers with experience of working at the International Criminal Court, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia. The delegation members also took part in seminars with legal academics from the Irish Centre for Human Rights at Irish universities.

Such study visits facilitate the study of foreign experience and the establishment of professional contacts, as well as provide an opportunity to talk about the challenges facing Ukraine and the courts of Ukraine, share information about the results of the judicial system and seek support in overcoming further challenges through joint efforts.
