31 january 2025, 15:57

The meeting took place as part of the visit of the Supreme Court delegation to the Council of Europe on the occasion of the opening of the ECHR judicial year.

Stanislav Kravchenko noted that Ukraine highly appreciates cooperation with the Council of Europe, and its support and expert assistance in such difficult times is very important for our country. In this context, the SC President emphasized the achievement made possible by the Council of Europe - the creation of the Register of Damages Caused by the Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

Alain Berset assured that the Council of Europe remains committed to supporting Ukraine and will do everything in its power to bring the time when a just peace will reign in our country again. He also noted that Ukraine and the Council of Europe still have a lot of joint work ahead of them, aimed, in particular, at the full implementation of an effective international compensation mechanism. This process will be very difficult, but joint efforts of Ukraine and the Council of Europe will succeed.

The President of the Supreme Court and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe also discussed the development of the practice of Ukrainian courts to consider criminal proceedings for war crimes in the context of the need to ensure that those responsible for their commission are brought to justice.

The visit was organized by the Council of Europe project “Support for the functioning of justice in the war and post-war context in Ukraine".
