Analysing the results of work over the past year, we are confident that in extremely difficult conditions of security threats and staff shortages, the judiciary has coped with its tasks and has much to be proud of. At the same time, these achievements were made possible largely due to the support of international partners.
This was emphasised by Stanislav Kravchenko, President of the Supreme Court, during an Extended Steering Committee Meeting within the framework of the Council of Europe projects, which discussed the results and prospects in certain areas of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine for 2023-2026 ‘Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction’.
‘The support of the Council of Europe has always been extremely important for Ukraine. Over the years of close cooperation, we have developed common standards and the same vision of the world, and no problematic aspect has been left out of our joint work,’ said Stanislav Kravchenko.
In particular, last year, the Council of Europe supported a series of roundtables to discuss the current practice of the European Court of Human Rights in cases against Ukraine and other member states. The particular value of these events lies in the fact that they reached the widest possible audience: judges from every region of Ukraine attended. In addition, these roundtables discussed not only the main trends in the ECHR case law, but also problematic issues in the practice of national courts.
At the same time, according to Stanislav Kravchenko, when summing up the results of the past year, it is important not only to evaluate the work done, but also to identify key areas where additional efforts should be directed in the future.
Last year, an important and responsible process began - negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union. The President of the Supreme Court is convinced that it will not be easy to overcome this path, but if we act together and in a coordinated manner, we will definitely overcome it, because unity is the key to success.
Undoubtedly, today the judiciary is facing tasks and challenges that require consolidation of efforts and support from the Council of Europe. Therefore, the President of the Supreme Court expressed hope for continued fruitful joint work and achievement of even better results.
In conclusion, Stanislav Kravchenko expressed his sincere gratitude for the Council of Europe's strong support of the Supreme Court. He particularly mentioned the project leaders and managers, expressing his gratitude for their contribution and professionalism.
