Supreme Court delegation visits Federal Court of Justice (Germany)

The delegation of the Supreme Court headed by President of the SC Stanislav Kravchenko paid a working visit to the Federal Court of Justice (Germany).

The delegation included Oleksandr Baranets, Secretary of the Judicial Chamber for Corporate Disputes, Corporate Rights and Securities of the Commercial Cassation Court of the Supreme Court, Serhii Pohribnyi, Judge of the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court, Mykola Himon, Judge of the Administrative Cassation Court of the Supreme Court, Iryna Dundar, Judge of the Civil Cassation Court of the Supreme Court, and Serhii Yeremeichuk, Judge of the Criminal Cassation Court of the Supreme Court.

During the visit, the representatives of the Supreme Court met with the President of the Federal Court of Justice, Bettina Limperg, and with the presiding judges of the Federal Court of Justice, Jürgen Schäfer and Thomas Koch, to discuss issues related to ensuring the uniformity of case law, the role and importance of the Federal Court of Justice and the Joint Senate of the Higher Courts of the Federation, and the impact of the case law of the Court of Justice of the EU on case law at the national level. The meeting was also attended by Stefan Hülshörster, Director of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ), and Wolfram Hertig, Senior Project Manager at the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation.  

In addition, during a professional discussion at the Federal Court of Justice, with the participation of the Presiding Judge of the Federal Court of Justice, the President of the Seventh Senate for Civil Matters, the President of the Federal Public Service Court, Rüdiger Pampa, and the retired Judge of the Federal Court of Justice, Holger Rothfuss, the participants exchanged views on the legislative regulation of the procedure for the election and evaluation of judges, on issues relating to the career of judges and on disciplinary legislation, while ensuring the independence of the judiciary and taking into account the integrity of the judiciary.   

The Supreme Court delegation also met with Federal Prosecutor General Jens Rommel. During this meeting, the methodology of war crimes investigations was discussed.

As a result of these meetings, the delegation agreed to continue working together to discuss and resolve the issues raised.
