The optimisation of the network of local general courts of Dnipropetrovs'k region, staffing and financial support of courts, the relevance of the draft law on amendments to the Law of Ukraine ‘On the Judiciary and the Status of Judges’ and certain legislative acts of Ukraine on improving the adoption and pronouncement of court decisions were discussed during an offsite meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legal Policy.
Oleksandr Marchuk, President of the Criminal Cassation Court of the Supreme Court, joined the event.
He focused on the issue of institutional capacity, pointing out that this aspect is important in Ukraine's negotiation process for EU membership.
"Institutional capacity depends on human capacity. We need to talk about the capacity of each of us: how much an individual professional is able to organise work honestly, effectively and in good faith, to inspire and motivate himself and the team to solve problems together. The past few years have shown that any problem can only be solved through joint efforts," says Oleksandr Marchuk.
The meeting was held with the support of the USAID ‘RADA: The Next Generation’ Program and the Centre of Policy and Legal Reform.
