President of the Supreme Court meets with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Ukraine

24 july 2024, 15:10

In the context of Russia's brutal unprovoked full-scale aggression against Ukraine, the judiciary has managed to ensure the functioning of the justice system, with the exception of the territories temporarily occupied by Russia. At the same time, the Ukrainian legal system needs international assistance in the context of reforms and European integration. Therefore, the support of France and other countries of the progressive world inspires Ukrainians to believe in a just and lasting peace.

This was stated by President of the Supreme Court Stanislav Kravchenko during a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Ukraine Gaël Veyssière.

The Ambassador stressed that France stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine and is ready to help our country in all areas until the end of the war. “Today, talking about freedom means talking about Ukraine and Ukrainians. The prospect of Ukraine's accession to the European Union is a key topic of discussion at the international level, and we admire the political will of Ukrainians on the European integration path,” said Gaël Veyssière.

The President of the Supreme Court thanked the government and people of France for showing solidarity with Ukraine in extremely difficult times. ‘We highly appreciate the signing of the Agreement on Security Cooperation between Ukraine and France and, in general, all the efforts of international partners aimed at supporting the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of our country,’ said Stanislav Kravchenko.

According to the SC President, the appointment of judges is a priority issue in the judiciary. The judicial system needs human resources to fulfil the tasks assigned to it, in particular, in terms of administering justice in accordance with European standards and fulfilling the requirements for Ukraine's accession to the EU, and the procedures for filling the judiciary must be proper and effective.

Gaël Veyssière assured that the French side will continue cooperation with Ukraine in the field of justice and hopes to deepen it in the near future within the EU.

The meeting was also attended by François Cottel, Political Counsellor at the Embassy of the French Republic in Ukraine, and Lina Hubar, Head of the Division for International Cooperation of the Supreme Court.
