Mykola Mazur, Judge of the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court, was among a group of Ukrainian experts, including representatives of the judiciary, prosecutors and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who visited the United States of America as part of the Open World Exchange Program of the US Congress. The visit was dedicated to the investigation and trial of numerous war crimes committed by russian forces on the territory of Ukraine.
During the trip, the Ukrainian delegation met with representatives of the War Crimes Accountability Team of the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of State, and analytical units of the U.S. Congress to discuss the problems and prospects of prosecuting war crimes committed by russians. Among other things, the members of the Ukrainian delegation stressed the importance of sustained and continued support for Ukraine from the United States and other Western partners, as without Victory over the aggressor it is impossible to secure real peace and restore law and order.
The participants also spoke with American judges, prosecutors, lawyers, police officers and legal experts, learned about the workings of the US legal system and discussed issues related to the theme of the trip.
In addition, the Ukrainian delegation made two presentations to the local community in Woodland, California, on the investigation of war crimes in Ukraine. The speakers, focusing on the numerous and heinous war crimes committed by the russian invaders against Ukraine and Ukrainian citizens, told ordinary Americans about the horrors of the war in which Ukrainians continue to live.
Representatives of the delegation thank the Congressional Office for International Leadership, Open World Programme, Rotary International, Woodland Noon Rotary Club and American Councils Ukraine for organising the visit.
