Ukraine's civilisational choice is to resist the war, not to fall, not to lose the country, state and territory as the main attribute of sovereignty - Oleksandr Mamalui

"It is impossible to hold an aggressor accountable in any meaningful way if he has not been defeated in the war he has unleashed. The tribunal is a tool of the winner. Not losing the war is the most important thing at the moment. Anything that helps to fight is useful. Anything that prevents us from resisting the enemy's invasion and attack is harmful," said Oleksandr Mamalui, Vice President of the Supreme Court, at the presentation of the photo chronicle "Unconquered Ukraine in the War of Civilisations".

The pages of this book show the work of 50 photojournalists - four thousand photographs illustrating the period of Ukraine's history from the Revolution of Dignity to the present day. The photo chronicle was initiated by the Law of Ukraine legal journal and the All-Ukrainian Human Rights Organisation "Memorial" named after Vasyl Stus.

The Vice President of the Supreme Court has indicated that recent history provides numerous examples of instances where statehood was lost through military means. That is why the real civilisational choice of Ukraine today is to resist the war, not to fall, not to lose the country, the state and the territory as the main attribute of sovereignty, not to lose our local civilisation.

"You will ask me if I believe in Victory. I will say that I believe we are capable of resisting. The war will be long, and the plan is simple: as long as we fight, we live. We are fighting for every day of our lives. Unlike the Second World War, we have no coalition, no alliance agreements on joint participation in the war. Russia attacked us and our partners are helping us voluntarily. They want to avoid a war on a continental scale, and that is quite understandable. Therefore, no matter how much we want more, the realisation of our civilisational choice now depends on such instruments of international law as the 155mm projectile, the auto-guided FPV 'machine vision' attack drone and the Barrett MRAD rifle. These tools are very important, but I am sure that we are able to survive primarily because of the people in this photo chronicle and many others, including those who now think of himself as a merchandiser, a barista, or an international lawyer. But in fact, he is a grenade launcher, a good grenade launcher. He will find out very soon," said Oleksandr Mamalui.
