The President of the Supreme Court, Stanislav Kravchenko, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Ukraine, Pier Francesco Zazo.

The President of the Supreme Court congratulated Italy on its presidency in the Group of Seven (G7) and expressed his gratitude to the Italian government and people for their solidarity with Ukraine, determination to defend the principles of democracy and freedom, support in the fight against russia's armed aggression against Ukraine and for their initiative to assist in the reconstruction of the infrastructure destroyed by the enemy.

Stanislav Kravchenko briefed the Ambassador on the work of the judiciary under martial law, focusing in particular on such problematic issues as the acute shortage of judicial personnel and the receipt of new categories of war-related cases by courts of all jurisdictions.

Pier Francesco Zazo assured that the issue of support for Ukraine is a priority for the G7 Ambassadors’ Group for 2024, adding that Italy will continue to provide the economic, humanitarian and military assistance Ukraine needs as long as it is necessary.

The Ambassador also noted that despite extremely difficult conditions, the Ukrainian judiciary responded with dignity to the challenges posed by the war. According to him, Italy supports Ukraine's European integration aspirations and welcomes the decision of the European Commission to give the green light to the process of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

The meeting was also attended by the First Secretary for Trade and Economic Affairs of the Embassy of the Republic of Italy in Ukraine, Damiano La Verde, the First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Supreme Court, Rasim Babanly, and the Head of the Department for International Cooperation of the Supreme Court, Lina Hubar.
