Oleksandra Yanovska, a judge at the Criminal Cassation Court within the Supreme Court, attended the 40th plenary meeting of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) as a member from Ukraine. The CEPEJ meeting was held on 15-16 June 2023 in Strasbourg (France).
Opening the CEPEJ plenary meeting, Christophe Poirel, Director of Human Rights of the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe, highlighted the negative impact of Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine on the judiciary and the economy of Europe and the world as a whole.
The meeting approved the CEPEJ Activity Report for 2022 and reviewed the work of a number of working groups. In particular, they adopted a new tool developed by the working group on court time management to help countries reduce the backlog of court cases. Other topics included the presentation of the new CEPEJ Resource Center on Artificial Intelligence and Cyberjustice, and an analysis of the Guidelines on Electronic Judicial Auctions.
