Today, on May 16, 2023, the Plenum held a meeting to consider the motion of no confidence in the President of the Supreme Court.
Following the results of a secret ballot, the Plenum of the Supreme Court terminated the powers of the President of the Supreme Court Vsevolod Kniaziev effective May 16, 2023, by a majority vote. 140 judges of the Supreme Court voted in favor of this decision.
The issue of no confidence in the President of the Supreme Court was initiated by an initiative group of Supreme Court judges following the publication by the NABU and the SAPO of a media report on the alleged corruption of the President of the Supreme Court, which damaged the authority of the Supreme Court and reduced public confidence in the court, pursuant to Article 41 of the Law "On the Judicial System and Status of Judges".
In accordance with part 5 of Article 39 of the Law "On the Judicial System and Status of Judges", a judge with the longest service as a Supreme Court judge shall exercise administrative powers until the new President of the Supreme Court is elected. This judge is the Secretary of the Plenum of the Supreme Court, Secretary of the First Trial Chamber of the Civil Cassation Court within the Supreme Court, Dmytro Luspenyk.
