The Order of the President of the Supreme Court of May 4, 2022, No. 27/0/9-22 restores the territorial jurisdiction of court cases of the Chernihiv Court of Appeal and 24 courts of the city and region of Chernihiv. These courts will be operational from 5 May 2022.
At the same time, the courts that previously considered the cases under the jurisdiction of the courts in Chernihiv region must ensure the consideration of cases submitted to them before May 4, 2022.
During the meeting dedicated to the resumption of the courts' work, the SC President Vsevolod Kniaziev thanked the leadership of the Chernihiv Court of Appeal, the presidents of first instance courts, the territorial administration of the State Judicial Administration of Ukraine and the leadership of the Court Security Service for the efforts made to restore administering justice in the Chernihiv region as soon as possible.
The SC President also expressed his gratitude to the judges and staff of those courts that took on additional workload in considering cases transferred from the courts of the Chernihiv region.
"Our weapons against the enemy are legal and fair judicial decisions that will complete the consideration of cases against collaborators and traitors, as well as the recovery of damage caused by the armed aggression of the Russian Federation. On April 14, 2022, the Supreme Court ruled that a country that has engaged in an aggressive war did not deserve respect for its judicial immunity. This means that the courts of Ukraine have the right to consider cases on the recovery of damages from the Russian Federation. This is a large amount of work, but I am sure that we will cope with it,” Vsevolod Kniaziev emphasized.
The SC President also inspected the premises of the Chernihiv Court of Appeal and the Commercial Court of the Chernihiv region, which were damaged as a result of rocket attacks on the central square of the city on February 28, 2022.
In the near future, it is planned to resume the work of the courts of the Sumy region and part of the courts of the Kyiv region.
