The President of the Supreme Court Valentyna Danishevska participated in a virtual 2020 Conference of Chief Justices of the Central and Eastern Europe, which was focused on the issues of building public support for the courts.
According to the President: “In times of technological progress and communication on social media, it is more difficult to seek public support for the courts, and we are aware there is no direct link between the image of the judiciary, trust in it and its actual operation”.
The Communication policy of the Supreme Court is aimed at building dialogue with society, media and professional community in order to increase trust in the judiciary. In particular, the Supreme Court is gradually increasing its activity on social media and messengers and has its official accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube, and has a Telegram channel as well.
Moreover, the Supreme Court systematically publishes reviews of the case-law of cassation courts and the European Court of Human Rights, digests of the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court and weekly video reviews of the most interesting judgments ruled by the Supreme Court.
Finally, Valentyna Danishevska shared with the conference participants the successful cases of communication between judiciary and the youngest audience and told about the «Lessons on Fairness». More than 200 judges joined it and within two years held almost 1, 200 «Lessons» before 30,000 schoolchildren. Children are invited to watch the cartoon and help its heroes to resolve their dispute.
«Trust in the judiciary and its authority must always be advocated, and the process should begin with the youngest citizens, those who perceive the information easily and truly», Valentyna Danishevska said.
