Members of Ethics Council Conduct a Working Meeting

The first working meeting of the Ethics Council took place on 19 November 2021 at the State Judicial Administration of Ukraine located at 18/5 vul.Lypska, Kyiv, 01601e-mail: ec@court.gov.ua which is the official address and location of the Ethics Council.

The members discussed a number of organizational issues, particularly, development of necessary documents to start the work of the Ethics Council, access of Council members to necessary registers, protection of confidential information, etc.

They also began to draft documents required for the Ethics Council at the first meeting.

Background:

According to p. 22 Article 91 of the Law of Ukraine On the High Council of Justice, the State Judicial Administration shall provide organizational and technical support to the Ethics Council.  

According to p.6  Article 91 of the Law of Ukraine On the High Council of Justice, the Ethics Council shall be formed to assist the bodies that elect (appoint) members of High Council of Justice in assessing the compliance of the candidate for the position of a member of the High Council of Justice with the criteria of professional ethics and integrity. According to p. 231 of the Law of Ukraine No. 1635-IX, the first composition of the Ethical Council shall be deemed to be established.

The Ethics Council members are:

  • Lev Kyshakevych, judge of the Supreme Court in the Criminal Cassation Court
  • Yuriy Tryasun, Judge of Kyiv Court of Appeal
  • Volodymyr Siverin, Judge of the Eastern Commercial Court of Appeal (Ret.)
  • Robert Cordy, Massachusetts Supreme Court Associate Justice (Ret.), today - partner at McDermott, Will & Emery (Boston)
  • Sir Anthony Hooper, PC, Lord Justice of Appeal, the Court of Appeal of England and Wales (Ret.), today - a member of Matrix Chambers
  • Lavly Perling, former Prosecutor General of the Republic of Estonia, today - an expert of the Estonian Center of Eastern Partnership.
