Column of the Ethics Council’s member Robert Cordy for “Left Bank” has been published.
Hence, Robert Cordy has evaluated the Ethics Council’s role in the conduct of the judiciary reform in Ukraine.
In particular, he emphasizes that the main idea underlying the newly established body consists in assisting bodies responsible for appointment or election of members of the High Council of Justice (HCJ) to make sure that candidates for the positions in this body comply with norms of high professional and ethical conduct, as well as complying with the integrity criteria.
In his opinion, work of all members of the Ethics Council which consists of Ukrainian and international experts is intensive. They work side by side in order to select best of the best.
Robert Cordy believes that the Ethics Council is just one of the elements of the judiciary reform in Ukraine. However, it’s peculiarity is that it plays an important role in formation of the HCJ. It means that it has decisive significance for the increase in trust and respect of the society to the judiciary overall.
